Social and Search in 2014

goopluxThe misinformation just keeps on flowing in the world of search. Today, I read an article in a major SEO journal about how Starbucks uses Google+ to get better search rankings… say what? Well, sure… Starbucks has 3 million people who have followed them at Google+. So, when Starbucks posts on Google+, the post could show up in search results for the people who are following them. But what about the thousands, perhaps, millions of small businesses with millions of less followers than that bad coffee company? Does anybody hear a tree fall in a forest? Don’t get me wrong. I think Google is doing everything they can to make G+ a dynamic place and they are out to prove that they can control their own destiny in the search vs social world. [Read more…]

Google Plus Update

Google Plus has had pretty slow uptake for the most part. We are there every day posting for ourselves and our clients and it is a very different place than Facebook to be sure. Facebook grew out of friends and families wanting to connect up so they could stay in touch more regularly. It cut through age and gender “issues” like butter.  Google was late to the party as they had some fits and starts with the social world before settling into Plus. But Google may never really challenge Facebook. It’s your writers opinion that the LinkedIn network may be closer to where G+ is headed. If it does, it is going there on steroids.

Call Me, Maybe?

We are more than half way through 2012. So, this makes it a good time to see how all things social and SEO are coming together. At the end of last year, it was clear. Some day, search engine rankings were going to be affected by social links. Why is it, in the thick of battle, it seems like nothing happens fast enough. Google Plus for Business [infographic]

With the recent migration of Google Places Business Pages to the Google Plus platform; participation in the Google Plus network is no longer an option.

Local Search and Google Plus clients at RightNow Communications can rest assured that we are working on making this transition as seamless as possible. In some instances the process has required the coordination of a re-validation phone call from Google. There are some bumps in the road for organizations that have more than one physical business location.

Google Plus: A Different Animal All Together

Google Plus is not the first attempt by Google in the world of social networking. Google Buzz failed miserably a few years back. They licked their wounds and decided to learn from their mistakes as only a billion dollar juggernaut could, after not being able to work a deal with Twitter or Facebook for a feed from either of those popular networks.

Social Media is Not an Option

In three previous posts we have worked our way through the basic steps of setting up shop  online and keeping it all running smoothly. With all of that in place we can now begin to work proactively. Social media is the next step. It begins with the development of pages at the various social portals. Our company provides management services for Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Pinterest. But there may be others that are important to your particular industry. Social Media is a great place to employ teamwork to accomplish all that has to happen consistently, which I will cover below.
